As
for writing a Surah (Qur'anic chapter) or some Ayahs on a tablet, adobe
or a sheet of paper, washing it with water or saffron and drinking the
water in the hope of acquiring blessings, knowledge, wealth, health or
things of the sort; as far as we know, the Prophet (peace be upon him)
did not do so for himself or for others, nor did he permit his Ummah
(nation based on one creed) or any of his Sahabah (Companions of the
Prophet) to do so, despite the reasons that might have created the need
for it. It was not mentioned in any Athar (narrations from the
Companions) that any of the Sahabah (may Allah be pleased with them) did
or permitted so. Thus, it is preferable to refrain from doing such
actions and replace them with what has been proven legal in the Shari`ah
(Islamic law) concerning Ruqyah with the Qur'an, the Magnificent Names
of Allah, Adhkar and Prophetic supplications with meanings well known
and devoid of any tinge of Shirk. It is enough for a Muslim to appeal to
Allah with what He sanctioned, hoping for His Reward, or that Allah may
drive away any misery or grief and grant one useful knowledge. Surely,
whoever finds sufficiency in what Allah has declared lawful, Allah shall
suffice them with it.
May Allah grant us success. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and Companions.
