After mentioning the Sahaabah radiallaahu anhum, Shaykh Fawzaan goes on to say:
“They are the jamaa’ah (main body of the
Muslims, the congregation) which Allah and His Messenger (sallallaahu
alayhi wa sallam) have commanded us to follow and to be with, and have prohibited us from separating from.
They are the main body of the Muslims who are upon the truth. As for
the one who charges them with ignorance and belittles their stature and
says:
‘they are men as we are men, and that
there is no objection in innovating. We are not obliged to follow the
salaf and their statements.’
This one is misguided – and refuge in Allah is sought. He
is trying to separate the latter part of this nation from its first.
For if the latter part of this nation is separated from its first, it
will be ruined. They want to destroy this nation, so they have come up with this plot: and it is to separate the latter ones from the former ones (salaf) of this nation.
Nowadays you will find a person who warns
from the methodology of the salaf, and warns from returning to their
statements saying;
‘This (the understanding of the salaf) is of days past.’
So he warns against which the salaf were upon and he encourages innovation in the religion!
The religion is tawqeefee (based
upon textual evidence) and it is to follow, and not to innovate and
create (new forms of worship and methodologies). Innovation is to be done in manufacturing (industry) and for worldly benefits, as for the religion, nothing is to be innovated after the passing away of the Messenger
(sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) because the legislation stopped with the
passing of the Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam). So there is
nothing upon us except to follow and that we do not innovate anything
from ourselves. We say:
‘This is what is appropriate for this era.’
Imaam Maalik rahimahullaah said:
‘The latter part of this Ummah (nation) will not be rectified except by what rectified its first part.’
That which rectified the first part was the Book of Allah and the Sunnah. So the latter part will not be rectified except by the the Book of Allah and the Sunnah, and by following the guidance of the salaf as-saalih.“

Regarding Imaam Maalik’s statement:
“Nothing will rectify the latter part of this Ummah except which rectified its first part.”
Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan mentions:
“What was it that rectified the first part? It was returning to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah. Likewise in the latter part of this Islamic nation, when much evil and misguidance, sects and groups have become widespread, only by returning to the way of those in the first generation will the present situation be rectified.
This path, that rectified the first
generation, is present today and all praise is due to Allah. That is the
Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu
alayhi wa sallam) and those specific qualified scholars who are able to
help us remove our doubts, should they arise.”
