Listen to the Quraan, the Book which had it been revealed upon a mountain, you would see the mountain crumble in humility.

People of Knowledge أهل الذكر

The Quraan intercedes for the one who gives preference to it's recitation over his sleep. So the one who recites it and stands with it in prayer has fulfilled what is needed for it to intercede for him.

It is narrated that the Prophet [Peace and Blessings of Allaah be Upon him] mentioned a man and said about him, “This man doesn’t make the Quraan a pillow” meaning he doesn’t sleep the night whilst neglecting the recitation of the Quraan.

It also narrated by Imaam Ahmad in his Musnad that the Prophet [Peace and Blessings of Allaah be Upon him] said, “The Quraan will split the grave of a person and will be eager to meet him on the Day of Judgment. It will say to him, ‘Do you know me? I am your companion, the one you used to  recite in seclusion whilst making your lips dry, the one who kept you up during the night - so today receive your reward’ and then a crown of veneration will be placed on him and then it will be said to him, ‘Recite and ascend to your place in Jannah.’”
There is also a similar narration that was narrated on the authority of ‘Ubaadah bin Saamit [May Allaah be Pleased with him].

Ibn Mas’ood [May Allaah be Pleased with him] said, “It is binding upon the one who recites the Quraan, to recite it during the night whilst people are asleep, to recite it during the day whilst the people are eating, to cry over it whilst the people are laughing, to be secluded with it whilst the people are socialising, to be mannered with it whilst the people are cavorting, to be humbled by it whilst the people dispute over it, to be sorrowed by it whilst the people are rejoicing.”
Muhammad bin Ka’b [May Allaah have Mercy on him] said, “We used to recognize the recitor of the Quraan by the paleness of his skin. His complexion would indicate that he was a person who had late nights and was hard-working.”

Wuhayb bin al-Ward [May Allaah have Mercy on him] was asked by a man, “Don’t you sleep?” He replied by saying, “From the wonders of the Quraan is that it makes my sleep and slumbers disappear.”
This is the month of the Quraan, Oh Slave of Allaah, it is the month in which it was revealed and the month when the worshippers listen to it. This is the Book of Allaah, recite it and make it manifest, listen to the Quraan, the Book which had it been revealed upon a mountain, you would see the mountain crumble in humility. Based on this, we need to make our hearts humbled, our eyes filled with tears, and not to fast Ramadhaan whilst falling into Haraam lest so fasting will be devoid of benefit.

Leave the darkness of sins because darkness prevents you from seeing or hearing. Recite the Aayaat of the Quraan and prevent your hearts from being like rocks or even harder.
How many people have recited the Quraan in the month of Ramadhaan yet their state and mindset is still like those who commit sins. A young man recites it yet he still follows his desires, the old man recites it yet he still can’t restrain his evil traits.

Where do we stand? Are we from those who listen to the Caller of Allaah and respond to him? Are we from those when they hear the Aayat of Allaah their hearts soften and struck with fear? Those when they fast, they fast with their tongues and eyes? Aren’t these people an example for us?
The difference between us and them is that they are a degree far above us and there is No Strength or Might except with Allaah, and Allaah is Sufficient for us.

  1. How to Benefit from Ramadan (19) - Studying and Being Effected by the Quraan: “If We had sent down this Qur'an upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and coming apart from fear of Allah. And these examples We present to the people that perhaps they will give thought.” [59:21]

These are mountains and rocks so how about our hearts? The hearts of some people have become hard and they have no softness within them. So you will find these hearts not fearing, and if they are tested with a great test, May Allaah protect us, you will find their hearts become like rocks or even harder. To rid this, one must recite the Noble Quran as it causes the hearts to soften, so if one recites and ponders on its meaning his heart will be scrutinized.
